Keller Williams Realty - We did not receive the earnest money put down on our house for sale.
On Nov. 20, 2013, the real estate agent, Rachel E.
Steidl of the Johnson City TN office, assured us that we'd receive the earnest money that was put down on our house that we were selling, when we signed the Purchase & Sale Agreement on it. No stipulations were discussed or agreed to. On Dec. 19th.
2013, we had to request a copy of the agreement from the closing agent of the deal. On Feb. 10th, when the purchasers were unable to purchase our house by the agreed upon date (after we gave them a generous extension on the closing date), we were told that we wouldn't receive the money because of a "stipulation" in the contract. The stipulation on the contract was typed in on a page that we had not initialed or signed.
We asked the real estate agent and the closing agent with Keller & Williams & they assured us that we were not legally bound to release the $500.00 earnest money back to the attempted purchasers. Today, Feb. 17th.
we were told by Rachel's supervisor that we would not receive the money and that's what we'd agreed to. DO NOT DEAL WITH KELLER & WILLIAMS UNLESS YOU ARE REPRESENTED BY AN ATTORNEY WHO WILL RESPRESENT YOUR INTEREST!
Reason of review: Problems with payment.
Monetary Loss: $500.
Location: Kingsport, Tennessee
